Barber Institute celebrates 80th anniversary
of Fine Arts, on the University of Birmingham's Edgbaston campus, was created by Dame Martha Constance 'Hattie' Barber and the first trustees, who signed the Deed of Trust on December 13 1932.

A programme of regular, award winning temporary exhibitions has explored artists and subjects as varied as Turner's early seascapes to lawn tennis and even parrots in art.

This marks the fact that they were all sent to London, and many displayed at the National Gallery, while the Barber building was under construction from 1936 to 1939.
The exhibition will be followed next May by About Face, which will feature portraits by the likes of Rembrandt.
Also in May, the first 12 paintings acquired for the Barber galleries including masterpieces by Simone Martini, Cima, Poussin, Turner, Manet and Monet will be displayed at the National Gallery, London.
Portrait of a Lady: The Life and Passions of Lady Barber, runs until February 24 next year.
While her own art collection, which she bequeathed to the Institute, was limited, she insisted that "all additional purchases shall be of that standard of quality required by the National Gallery and the Wallace Collection".
A final section will explore their connections with the University of Birmingham, culminating in Lady Barber's gift.
She wanted to provide the university with enough money to construct, equip and maintain a purpose built art gallery and concert hall to be used "in perpetuity for the study and encouragement of art and music".
Cheltenham Ladies' College educated Air Max 2015 Mens Sale Lady Barber was the daughter of a wealthy Worcestershire businessman, Simon Onions. Her husband proved a highly successful businessman, making his fortune in the expanding suburbs of Birmingham.
Now the milestone anniversary is to be commemorated by exhibitions that explore the early history of the Barber.
The exhibition offers an insight into the Barbers' life at Culham Court and its gardens and collections.

Acting director Robert Wenley said: "The 80th anniversary of the foundation of the Barber Institute is an ideal opportunity for us to acknowledge our visionary founder and mark the birth of an internationally important art collection.
Eight decades later, the Barber galleries contain major works by many of the key names in the history of Western art, including Botticelli, Bellini, Rubens, Degas, Renoir and Van Gogh.
l The Barber Institute is open from 10am until 5pm on weekdays and from 11am until 5pm at weekends. It will be closed from Christmas Eve until Boxing Day and on New Year's Day.
