"I think there's room for a lot more humour and warmth."
Squire can see the benefits of the 'all England' slot and appears comfortable with the changes having helped shape strategy in her previous role.

Radio Manchester is to lose around 8% of its budget about 4 or 5 five of its 40 strong team and there will be more sharing of content with other stations in off peak slots, which includes an 'all England' programme from 7pm 10pm a sort of radio equivalent of the One Show.
But the future sound and feel of the station will also be shaped by the BBC's cost saving plan known as Delivering Quality First which needs to save 20 per centacross the BBC as a result of the licence fee settlement.
But it will opt out for live sport and breaking news, and retain its afternoon programming.

This is up from 203,000 at the same point last year and represents 12 per centof its potential audience.
Squire, who grew up in Sale, has been with the BBC since joining as a graduate trainee in the mid 1980s. She went on to manage Radio Nottingham and Radio Leicester and is well acquainted with the BBC's latest thinking on local radio, having spent the past year as head of local radio development.
"It's about getting out there and raising our profile, it's also about making sure we're thinking about the local radio audience an audience with a local mindset and sense of pride and loyalty to the patch in which they live." Local radio listeners tend to be older.
In fact, the BBC's remit for Radio Manchester is to target the over 50s, who are perceived to be poorly served by other broadcasters.
"It would be unrealistic for us not to have anything taken from us," says Squire. "It's also an opportunity to look at how you do things and see if you can do things differently."
In a recent announcement it has been confirmed local radio will lose around 10% of its budget half Nike Air Max Thea Pure Platinum White
Squire wants to focus on this audience because aside from fulfilling the licence agreement it will also avoid competition with the many commercial broadcasters operating on her patch, including GMG (Smooth, Real Radio), Bauer (Key 103) and Global (Xfm, Capital). a period of decline, adding 70,000 in the final three months of 2011 and a further 12,000 in the first quarter of 2012, taking the total to 259,000.
Her target is steady year on year audience growth and she believes a focus on the "heartland" audience will deliver this goal.
Kate Squire says she has been doing a lot of "listening and thinking and communicating with staff" since taking over as managing editor from John Ryan in April.
"We need to connect with Greater Manchester in a bigger way than we've done in the past, places like Wigan, Bolton, Bury and Stockport. We need to be as relevant as we are to people in Manchester," she says.
