Construction companies in the West Midlands are among those named by the Office of Fair Trading after a four year investigation into a tender rigging cartel which has involved 112 firms.
The present inquiry by the OFT was triggered when an auditor in Nottingham became suspicious about irregularities in the bidding for construction deals at the Queen's Medical Centre in 2004 which lead to large and small firms facing allegations of wider uncompetitive practices covering 240 specific instances worth 3billion.
