Lesley Dobson, a spokesman for BAE Systems, said: "BAE Systems is proud of its long association with the Chadderton Site. However, a significant reduction in the site's workload means that it is no longer viable for BAE Systems to continue to operate out of the site.
Proposals to move the business to its Samlesbury site by March next year were announced to 161 staff at the Chadderton factory this morning.

The company, which leases the factory, blamed the move on a reduction in orders, including the government Nimrod aircraft programme which was axed last year.

BAE Systems is to close its plant in Oldham ending the site'shistoric link to the aviationindustry which included the wartime manufacture of Lancaster bombers.
Staff at the site on Greengate perform procurement, customer services and engineering support functions.
A spokesman said it hoped to move as many of its staff to Samlesbury but some job losses were 'inevitable'.
