Fire Chief Chris Aponte of the Harrods Creek Fire Department said the adults at the house were outside when firefighters arrived and were attempting a rescue, and fire crews joined in, according to the Courier Journal.
The boys, whose parents are Deanna and Chris Bailey, attended Barre Town Middle and Elementary School. According to Principal Timothy Crowley, both boys were a part of the Barre Town family. William, or as he was known at school, was in the fourth grade; Solon was in the seventh grade.
wanted to do his best, White said. was very proud of him as a musician. . He was not a know it all. He always wanted to learn. Bailey, too, had great potential as a musician, White said. could see it in him.
At home, the boys, who were described as lovingly cared for pets, including cats and a guinea pig. In fact, at one point in the last year, the boys insisted they start an egg business with the chickens the family had raised at their home on Morgan Lane.
Both boys were described as having pleasant dispositions and good sense of humor. (Liam Bailey was considered the bigger ham of the two; Solon's sense of humor was called Liam Bailey's fourth grade teacher, said both boys always were surrounded by legions of friends.
While battling the blaze, the roof collapsed, Ott said. The elder Baileys were injured, as were three firefighters, and the couple's home was mostly destroyed. The Baileys were released from a local hospital on Saturday.
He said two of the injured firefighters had minor burns and a third had an ankle injury.
Ott said the decorations included both artificial and real trees. Friday, alerted by an alarm system.
The boys loved to be outside, playing in the yard and countryside near their rural home. Both boys were athletic, enjoying soccer and other outdoor sports. And the family loved to downhill ski. Several friends noted that the Baileys often spent time together downhill skiing at Sugarbush.

He added that the investigation was focused on what had been three rooms on the first floor. Ott said each of the rooms had had Christmas trees, and the home was decorated for the holiday.
Barre Town brothers killed in Kentucky fire
However, a memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Dec. for the brothers at St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church in Harrods Creek, Ky.
The boys were visiting their grandparents, Irving W. Bailey II and Cathy Bailey, at the couple's home on Longview Lane in Louisville. Chris Bailey is the son of Irving and Cathy Bailey.
Chris and Deanna Bailey moved to the region after dairy farming for years in the Champlain Valley, according to friends and family. The boys, the Baileys' only children, were home schooled for a few years, but often attended classes at Barre Town Elementary in part for education and part for socialization. Deanna Bailey went on to work at the school as the science and math coordinator and then as a paraeducator. (She now teaches science in Morrisville.) BARRE TOWN A Christmas Day fire has claimed the lives of two well known Barre Town boys who were visiting grandparents in Louisville, Ky.

He said counselors would be made available to Barre Town students.
are a great family, said Jane Connolly, Solon Bailey's teacher. are very close. and friends said both boys were very empathetic, which endeared them to fellow classmates and adults alike. They both volunteered often for projects and community service. Their sensitivity toward others stood out to Crowley.
The Bailey brothers were remembered Saturday as thoughtful, energetic boys, who loved the outdoors, their family and friends. They were rarely idle, everyone seemed to agree.

Funeral services for the two boys will be held later this week. No other information was available.

According to Maj. Henry Ott of the Louisville Metro Arson Squad, the investigation into the cause of the blaze likely will continue at least into Monday as they await heavy excavation equipment to help remove debris from the large house.
Five adults were in the house, including Deanna and Chris Bailey, when the fire started four on the first floor and one in the basement. The boys had been located on the second floor, Aponte said.
