"People were travelling up to an hour to get there. There was obviously something about the model that worked."
Simon said: "The stores were very busy and were attracting 15,000 shoppers a week.
Blackpool based B soon to move to a new HQ in Liverpool has benefited from the recession, during which high street names such as Kwik Save and Woolworths have gone under, putting some prime retail sites on the market.
B brothers aiming to build the new Woolworths
The brothers are part of a close knit family that often holidays together, and Simon enjoys annual summer trips to Ibiza, where he can still occasionally be found on the dancefloors of the island's renowned nightclubs.
Eager to start their own enterprise again but tied to a seven year non competition clause, the brothers looked to the retail sector for opportunities and in 2004 acquired B then a chain of 20 discount stores in Lancashire and Greater Manchester.
The brothers sold the business to Lambert Howarth, which was one of Marks Spencer's biggest suppliers, and spent the next few years on the board.
"It is not just 'pile it high, sell it cheap' any more. You have to be responsive and efficient. The difference between us and the competition is that our products are mostly branded. We sell Duracell batteries and Walkers crisps.
He Womens Nike Air Max Thea White And Black said: "It's not ideal but it was so widely predicted that we were resigned to it. It does seem unnecessarily harsh on the low paid and they are our customers." Simon, whose wife Shalni was a co founder of bio tech business DxS which was sold to a Dutch pharmaceuticals group in a deal worth up to 80m in September last year also voiced concerns about the effect capital gains tax increases can have on economic prosperity.
That rapid growth has seen B investing heavily, including a 24m distribution centre in Speke which opens later this year and, while Simon said finding funding for growth had been a challenge, the banks had been very supportive of the business.
"Our analysis suggests we could get to 400 before we reach saturation."

B Bargains has evolved from being a forgotten regional discount chain to a national powerhouse thanks to the foresight of the Arora brothers from Sale.
"We target 10,000 sq ft stores in district or neighbourhood centres and expect to finish the year with 220.

He said: "We are serial entrepreneurs and it was a struggle when we first bought this business. It is important that the tax regime doesn't take away the incentive from taking those risks."
Another issue has been filling the 5,500 jobs that have been created in the last four years.
Simon said: "Over the next five years we built it up. The problem was that the product was almost exclusively own label.
And the VAT hike in the emergency Budget could hit Simon's customers hardest.
He said discount retailing has moved on in leaps and bounds over the past two decades.
Over the last three years, discount chain B Bargains has transformed Britain's retail landscape, opening stores at a rate of one a week.
After a spell working as an analyst and investment executive in London at McKinsey, Barclays and 3i, Simon, who has two daughters, returned to the north west and went into business with his brother Bobby, who he describes as a "born trader".
But this serial entrepreneur is not looking for an exit any time soon from B which is predicted to turnover 600m this year, up from 426m.
Simon said: "Woolworths had a bad property strategy and failed to keep up with the changing market. Discount retailing is something that is here to stay."
added: "We like to think we have picked the right sites from those estates to fit our model, which is loosely based on the American chain Dollar General.
"When it went through its growth period seven or eight years ago it was opening 500 stores a year. Now it turns over nearly 6bn.

"Over time, the margins would inevitably deteriorate as the world became a smaller place, and the middle man, who didn't have a brand, would come under pressure."
"Over the last 30 months we have opened 170 stores. That's more than one a week.
